Bolla’s paintings portray animals and human figures painted with pigment and glitter against a flat background, usually dominated by one color. Transporting us from reality into a world of fantasy, he reminds us of our youth and a carefree time.

A similar approach is given to his sculptures of animals and objects created with non-traditional mediums. During the 90s, he began using Swarovski crystals for his creations, resulting in sophisticated works of art that reveal exquisite and timeless beauty.

Bolla’s dreamlike universe of real objects reinterpreted and decontextualized alludes to our fragile and ephemeral existence. He often uses mundane or sinister subjects that become transformed by their materials, creating a peculiar contradiction with a poetic approach, a signature of his work. Underneath its alluring appearance, Bolla’s creations are a deep reflection of our modern society and the obsession with self-image, beauty, fashion and status symbols.

Nicola Bolla has exhibited his work extensively throughout the US, Europe and Asia, and has participated in important international exhibitions such as the 53rd edition of the Venice Biennale. He currently lives and works in Torino, Italy.
